Massage therapy is a professional health discipline, regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).  As part of its many responsibilities, the CMTO defines the scope of practice for massage therapists in Ontario:

[blockquote]”The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.”[/blockquote]

What does this mean for you?

This means our efforts are focused on restoring your functionality, reducing or eliminating your pain or discomfort, and preventing complications associated with the signs and symptoms you are experiencing.  Naturally, your first treatement will require a more extensive assessment and, if your care requires several treatments over a long period, a reassessment is usually performed at some point.  We always take at least a moment at the start of each session to check for progress or contraindication, to ensure that your massage therapy treatment is both safe and effective.
